- IBM Delivers Initial Beta Release of OpenDoc for Windows
- 95/NT
-
- We announced it at Spring COMDEX (04 Jun), and we weren't
- kidding! The initial release of the OpenDoc for Windows
- beta is now available for download at the Club,
- complementing the availability of OpenDoc for OS/2 Warp,
- OpenDoc for the Macintosh (from Apple ), and the OpenDoc for
- AIX beta.
-
- OpenDoc for Windows is IBM's implementation of the OpenDoc
- 1.0.4 (DR4) specification and supports the Windows 95 and
- Windows NT platforms. This release of OpenDoc for Windows
- implements a significant portion of the functionality which
- is planned for the final release, including the OpenDoc
- component and compound document services (opening, saving,
- restoring, closing, embedding of parts, linking, and data
- transfer) and portions of the OLE/OCX support.
-
- Currently, OpenDoc for Windows requires the installation and
- use of IBM's VisualAge for C++ for Windows (Version 3.5) for
- both development and execution of OpenDoc for Windows parts.
- Ordering information can be found at the application
- development section of the IBM Software WWW site at
- http://www.software.ibm.com/ad/cset/windows/vacppwin.html.
- However, in the next several weeks and months, IBM is
- planning to deliver a series of enhancements for the Windows
- beta, which it will announce and deliver via the Club. Stay
- tuned for:
-
- Microsoft Visual C++ OpenDoc sample parts and source code
- Development recipes and "How-To" tips Windows-specific
- documentation Additional features, including complete
- OLE/OCX support, scripting, performance enhancements, etc...
-
- While we're working on Windows, we hope you will be too. We
- encourage you to test drive the OpenDoc for Windows beta and
- provide us with some feedback on your experiences and your
- impressions of what OpenDoc for Windows can do for your
- application develop ment projects. Technical Q&A support is
- available for registered Club members by sending email to
- opendoc@austin.ibm.com. We will not be able to provide
- individual fixes for specific problems. We hope our future
- releases of updated drivers will address your needs.
-
- You'll find the toolkit at
- http://www.software.ibm.com/clubopendoc/odwinbeta.html.
